Hi guys, a very basic question:

I will be getting a G5. I saw a HD with FW 800, FW 400, and USB 2.0 built in (GVP XP 800). The downside seems to be a relatively slow seek time, 12ns. Does this matter for heavy duty ediing?

Thanks

You'll probably save money if buy an enclosure and drive seperately. For an enclosure look for something w/the Oxford 911 or 922 chipset (note: if you go w/the 922 chipset make sure the manufacture has up to date firmware that is compatible w/Panter). For your HDD I'd get at least a 120gig 7200RPM drive w/an 8MB cache.

I disagree with LethalWolfe. Unless you get a drive with mail-in rebates, its usually cheaper to get a case with drive. I recommend OWC for your external drive. I am very pleased with mine. It performs very well especially for DV and came loaded with shareware and Apple stuff.
