Hi. I have bought lacie external drive and I noticed that when I put my iMac to sleep mode the drive and the fan are still on. I spoke to Lacie tech support and they said that in sleep mode FW ports are still powered, that is why the drive stays on. The only way to turn the drive off is manually switch it off, which is quite annoying. Another way - to shut the computer down every time. I am wondering if there is a way to set up my iMac so FW ports are off in sleep mode??

i have a 250GB lacie HD on my 1.5GHz PB via FW800. when my PB goes to sleep my LaCie HD shut's down the fan and the blue light goes off. the HD is dead silent then so i'm sure it sleeps. when i wake up my PB the HD comes on as well.
the HD is NOT bus powered. it's a lacie d2. i had this set up for two years now and it works flawlessly. the HD is loud when it's not sleeping.
don't know why it's different for you.
btw: it works the same on FW400.

I have a Western Digital 500gb which works like this too. Not sure why this doesn't seem to be the case for the OP.
