I have-

2.5ghz i7 quad Late 8,2 w/ 4gb ram.

-Dell ST2410 through the the thunderbolt w/ the apple adaptor (I haven't any noticed any issues with the external screen)

I am using a OWC Mercury Elite Pro w/ a 2TB Seagate Barracuda XT (VIA FW800)

-I use a 500gb partition for Time Machine and the rest of the drive for media.

For a while, I thought my bluetooth (magic mouse + keyboard) was causing lag and random beachballs.

I disconnected everything and the machine runs smooth without any peripherals at all.

Of course, I can only guess that the FW800 for the external must be causing the lag.

The machine lags whether or not if Time Machine is running since it must not be from TM. I just can't figure out to smooth out the lag.

Of course, I ran the Verify Check for the external drive, and also the permissions for the internal drive.

Besides- I had a 2.8ghz late '08 before my i7 and I can't recall having any issues like this.
