Hello.

At work we have one 1 TB Lacie Quadra drive and three 1 TB WD Studio drives (FW800, USB, eSata).

One of those WD drives needs partitioning, as there is one folder with over 75.000 files in it, and our editing software (Avid Media Composer 12.x) can't handle more than 10.000 files in one of its Media Files folders.

So I created 10 folders to use to spread all the files up into a "more" manageable 7500-files-per-folder thingie.

Then I will re-partition the drive into ten volumes (as only one OMFI Media Files folder can exist on one volume) and move one folder to one volume, and so on.

Now I'm copying the already created folders to the Lacie Quadra, to copy them back tomorrow, or the day after, as the copying of approx. 572 GB takes around 4-5 hours, and there is still 200 GB not copied yet
.

I copy via my Unibody MacBook Pro and FireWire 800, and I get only speeds of around 23-38 MB/s, while my 320GB Lacie Quadra even writes with up to 55 MB/s.

Can this slow read and write speed be, as there are many, many small and big files in those (now 6) folders (copying), some in the kilobytes and some in the megabytes?
