Just an FYI out there for anyone who needs optical media. Office Depot has 50 pack spindles of Sony CD-Rs for $15, and 50 pack spindles of Sony DVD-/+Rs for $30. But, they're buy one get one free, so for 15 bucks, you get 100 blank CDs or for 30, 100 blank DVDs. The CD-Rs were 1-48x, and the DVD-Rs are 1-16x. It's one hell of a deal.
I just got back from there with 100 DVD+Rs, which should last me forever since I rarely burn DVDs, but I couldn't pass this up. I'll probably head back there this week for some CD-Rs which I do in fact use quite often.
My PowerBook recognized the DVDs as 8x media just fine, which came as a nice surprise since I thought my PowerBook was only 4x. The only other media I've tried (Maxell I think) shows up as 4x despite being 8x, so I'm assuming the Sony media is better and more compatible.
Anyways, just a heads up because I'm sure some of you here use optical media a lot
