...To be fair, you're going to have to be jailbroken (which has other tweaks and apps that are already worth their weight in gold) but a guy who is a lot smarter than me just released a free app called "WiFried (AWDL Disable)" on Cydia that claims to fix the iOS 8 Wi-Fi issues.

And for my 5S, it has fixed my issues 100% and then some for going on 12 hours now. Which I would have normally had some lag bottleneck up without fail within the first hour or two after all of the other previously oft-suggested "fixes" for these issues.

You'd lose AirDrop though, which I just use sending some photos to my Mac.
 
Actually, you don't lose it. It has its own toggle built in to the Airdrop button in control center. You can re-enable Airdrop any time and then when you are done using it and would like to return to un-crippled Wi-Fi again - just enable WiFried again in CC and you're good to go.
