For what it is worth to those in the future who may encounter this problem.
I accidentally purchased 1333 RAM for my mid 2009 macbook pro and installed it. But, I should have used 1066 instead as the 1333 is not compatible with mid 2009 mac.
Well after installing the wrong RAM and booting up, and then re-installing the original RAM back in, the wrong RAM must have caused my computer to boot to the grey apple logo screen with the grey spinning disk thing (no status bar present) even after putting the proper RAM back in.
Installing the wrong RAM messed my computer up, as it never got passed the grey logo screen.
Well, then I booted in "verbose" mode, by hitting "command+v" just after turning the computer on. It ran in what looks like DOS or a bunch of text. Mine ran for about 10 mins, appearing to do nothing at times. But, alas, it did the trick and booted from that into the regular OS.
I hope this helps anyone stumbling into this issue in the future.
