G-Drive - leave on or switch off?

I've just received a G-Drive Q 500GB external drive and connected it with FW800. As promised, it mounted as soon as I switched it on. I shall use it with SuperDuper! 2.5, when that is released, and - probably - Time Machine.

For the time being, I've ejected it and switched it off as I'm not ready to bring it into use (no SuperDuper!, for one thing). I know that Time Machine does hourly backups, which implies that the G-Drive should be left on, at least during the day. As I'm still in the early stages of learning all things Mac, having got my very first Mac (an iMac 24") at the end of December, I'd value any recommendations based on experience.

Time Machine will only back-up when the drive is on, if you switch it off in the middle of a back-up it'll resume from where it left off the next time it's turned on. It's best to leave it on and connected as then you'll always have that back-up done, if you create and lose a file while it's not connected, it can't help you.
