About a month ago I purchased this HDD, I plugged it in today and it no longer shows up in Finder or in Disk utility. IT says its plugged in, in the system information. I tried switching wires but i get the same result.

If it is like mine, it will only work with the original cable. If you have accidentally mixed them up, you will have to get that sorted.

A.

Do you happen to know which format the drive was in?
Was it "Mac format" (HFS+)?
Or was it something else?

Do you have access to a Windows PC, by any chance?
What happens if you plug the drive into the Windows machine?

If it mounts in Windows, GET YOUR FILES OFF OF IT, onto some other storage media.

If it DOES NOT become accessible in Windows, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ANYTHING MORE. Disconnect it for now.

At first it was HFS+, then switched the format to exFAT. On windows it only shows up on devices and printers.

Frankly, I would not trust my data (on a Mac) to a drive formatted in anything other than HFS+ ...
