Hello.

Have my new mac coming on Tuesday and am looking at a hard drive to store all my movies so I do t clog the fusion drive

The lacie 3tb is £30 cheaper but is 5200 and the g-drive is 7200.

Lacie Porsche http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H...esign-p9233-usb-3-desktop-hard-drive?fnode=5f

G-drive http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H...ive-professional-external-hard-drive?fnode=5f
Or I have just found this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LaCie-7200RPM-USB3-Hard-Disk/dp/tech-data/B004CFUTAK/ref=de_a_smtd

Anyone have any advice on these? It would be greatly appreciated.

My plan is to use say 500gb for time machine (or do you have to do the full size of the fusion drive?) and 2,500 for movies and music etc.

Cheers

Adam

If all you are going to do is store movies and your iTunes library, you won't see any difference between 5400 or 7200RPM.

There may be a slight difference with Time Machine backups, but again not noticeable.

You'll only notice the difference when you run benchmark applications.

I guess in the end all hard drives fail etc. and as both come with a 3 year warranty I went for the g-drive.

Just need to work out what to stick on the activity light on the front as it seems pretty bright lol

Thanks for your reply though

G Drive is the most expensive out of these three. What made you go for that one?

Not sure really. Just went for the drive speed. I read a review that the 7200 lacie (the third on my list) did not support usb3 in lion as it is old.. Not sure how that is possible but I played it safe..

Should have just got a WD for half the price I guess.... It looks nice though except for the bright light...
