I'm really interesting in purchasing one of these drives. I'm leaning towards the G-Safe. However, do you know if you can just swap these out with two new, exactly the same, larger drives? I'd rather use my own drives and just use the ones that come with it for another enclosure I have.

I'm not sure though. Granted I am getting two drives, a nice enclosure with actual bays that come out, and in general a good product, about $500 for 250GBs seems kinda steep now'n days.

The alternative is their single drive fan-less drive.

Either way, I'd like FW800, and reliable safe back up.

Note: I would not be backing up music (all of mine are ripped from CDs I own, so I have hard copies :)) I would be backing up valuable data, such as school work, portfolios, photos, and other documents I live off of.

As long as it uses the same interface that the enclosure does I don't see why it shouldn't work

But I'm almost certain it will void any type of warranty from G-technology. Which to me is an acceptable trade off.
