G3 Dual USB Ibook cd drive errors

one night my drive stopped reading all cds and i was wondering if this needs to be replaced or is it a software problem.

It could be a dirty lens, use a clean cotton bud and some isopropyl alcohol, if it still doesn't work, then it's probably a hardware problem

BTW, will it play audio CD's?

Audio cds cannot be read.
