I have an old iBook G3-800Mhz. The computer turns on, but the display is black.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill

The problem is the solder on the logic board is cracked and is coming apart.

There is a shim fix but it doesn't work for a lot of people. Just search for iBook G3 shim fix and read away.

the shim trick works somtimes others just use a clamp and fix it that way to the desk , but i think all thes methods only cover up the symptoms ,
a hot soldering iron a tiny tiny bit of solder and a bit care(the little legs of the chip are tiny) solves the problem more permanently

thats on the ibook g4 (which the problem is not usually the gpu), on the ibook g3 it is the gpu (which is a BGA chip)but im with you that the shim trick is only temporary
