G3 - Is the end near?

What will it take for Apple let go of the G3?

Do they need a G5 to make the jump or is it possible to put a G4 in the iBooks and distinguish the pro and consumer models thru different Bus Speed, Hard Drive, and Graphics Cards?

when i finally upgrade my 233 G3 Desktop
actually i think they will probably drop it when or soon after the next gen chip comes out because G4 chip prices will probably drop in price at that point.
BTW- I use both photoshop and Maya PLE on this machine

I'm hoping that they will drop the G3 when they update the iBooks, possibly at the end of the year. The G4 prices are already beginning to drop, which could be a signal that the G5 will be here for MWSF. I'm sure they will drop the G3 for good once the G5's arrive, but who knows, they may end up dropping it sooner.
