Whats the difference between a g3 with a shiney front to a matt front? (which is earlier / later)

there were no g3 models with a shiny front. if the matte one is blue and white, that's a g3. if they are both gray, then they are both g4 models

the g4 matte front is earlier, and called the 'Quicksilver'

the g4 shiny is later, the last g4 model produced, and call 'Mirrored Drive Door', or 'MDD' for short.
 
Huh? G3 PowerMac?

It's the G4 Powermac that had the "shiny" front known as the MDD (Mirror Drive Door) and were the last G4 Towers made.

Here's the time line of the Powermacs. Second from the last being the MDD.
