G3 Tower, B&W, only sees 128MB with a 256MB chip

Any ideas as to why my mac G3 Tower Blue and Whie, OS X, only "sees" 128 MB of a chip labeled 256 MB?

Chip info:
Bravo
256MB SDR DIMM, H
32WHS
P0119640
