G4 350 mhz : to upgrade or not

Hey guys...I'm a complete newbie and just wanted to ask anybody here if they own the G4 350mhz MAC.

I was contemplating on upgrading the processor to the ZIF 500 from PowerLogix but still thinking.

Has anyone here done this or would even recommend it?

My thinking is telling me it wont much a difference because the motherboard bus is 100.

Any thoughts?

even with the 100 bus you have a lot of room for improvement, how much you want to spend? what are you going to do with it? are you into hard core gaming?these are questions you have to ask yourself but remember that was the entry g4 so you have plenty of room to make the system faster and it wont cost a arm and a leg.

Wow thats what I call a quick response.

Well lets see.

I don't game on this MAC. Here's what I use it for.

I use it for music so mostly midi and audio. I run Logic 5.5 with it and a MOTU 2408 sound card. And I have an ATTO scsi card connected to a ultra scsi 3 lvd seagate drive. And I have a gig of memory.

I honestly have no problems with it. I was just thinking about possibly upgrading the processor or maybe break into my pocket for a new G4.

As for money I really don't want to invest another $500 into this machine. I already got hammered for it in 1999 for $1500 then the numerous upgrades for memory, dual video card, OS 9, new HD, SCSI hard drive.

What do you think?

It all depends upon what Apple's new processor is going to be. I would wait until after WWDC, only 2.5 weeks now, and then make a decision. I can't see making any upgrades to my iMac DV 400 at this point.

i bet you can get a 800 upgrade for under 250.00. that should make things move pretty quick compared to the 350. looking at your needs i would check all the upgrades for your machine then go for the best deal. Good luck

Is that a guess or a known fact?

All I could find for my MAC was the Power Ziff 500 which is like $300.00.

Would anyone know a better processor than that?

Remember my MAC is the G4 350 pci.

hey, you said you were a Newbie. Just trying to break a habit before it becomes a bad one.
