When I start up my PowerMac G4 Sawtooth, instead of just having the simple Apple logo with the spinning circle below as bootup, it switches over to this black screen with white text like an old bootup screen. When it's done, it goes to the login screen. I was wondering what that screen is and how to get rid of it.

edit

i guess it looks like that

verbose-boot-mac-os-x.gif

(yes thats of a intel mac , but looks the same in ppc Mac's just could not find a picture of a ppc Mac booting in verbose mode)

you are booting into verbose /single user mode
and if it does it always then someone set you mac to always boot in verbose mode
to disable it again type in the terminal
sudo nvram boot-args=""

if you really need to boot in verbose mode one day just hold down command+V
its handy for trouble shooting
