I wanted to know if anyone knows if it's possible, in any way at all, to set up a cube to be able to have a video out to a tv? Is there some sort of USB solution, since I don't think there are any pci slots. In addition, I wanted to know if there is *any* way to give it AirPort Extreme compatibility, even if it's an 802.11g card through another manufacturer. If anyone knows about any way to do either of those things, it would be a big help. Thanks.

It is possible to mount other AGP video cards in a cube, it only requires swapping the mounting bracket from a "cube" AGP card. Check xlr8yourmac.com they have some info on it. As for Airport Extreme, I wouldn't count on it, as the USB-WiFi adapters are only 10mbps, I doubt any manufacturer would even bother. Maybe if someone makes a Firewire to Airport Extreme bridge, but i doubt that too. Another option would be one of those Wi-Fi - Ethernet bridges, i bet somebody will make an 802.11 version. Those bridges are also handy for getting an Xbox or PS2 wireless.

I just realized that I could probably just put an AE base station near the cube and run an ethernet cable from the cube to the base station, so that's not a big problem.

that is probably a good idea, and if you have the need for speed faster than Airport Extreme, you can always plug in to the base station, and get a Hub or a switch for you laptop (I assume you have a laptop, hence the need for wireless)

Do you own a cube, or are you looking into getting one?

If it is the latter, I might have one for sale soon. The stock Radeon that it came with is on its last leg. I get screens with multiple vertical lines frequently now. (A sign of impending video card failure, I have been told)

If you hope to buy a cube and put a new card that suports S-Video out, let me know. We might be able to swing a deal that works out for both of us!

Really? I'm looking for one, this clamshell I have is just so slow and I might be heading off to colllege soon so a small destop like that would be perfect.

As for the first question:

Looks like what you are looking for.

Yeah, I don't currently have one, I'm definitely looking into getting one, well, not looking into it, I'm getting one. I just need to make sure I can afford it. An internal DVD drive is a necessity though.

My cube has an internal DVD drive, and a firewire CD-RW I'd sell along with it! :)

As long as you understand that you will need to get a new video card for the cube for it to work properly, I am willing to sell the system.

Cubeowner.com has a good summary of what options are available for video card upgrades for the cube. As well as all other upgrades that you can do. (Assuming infinite money for the owner) Owning a cube and modifying it seems to be a very popular hobby for some people. I for one, would like a Superdrive, thus the need to sell my beloved cube.

Click on Graphics/Video Card Upgrades on the following page.

Let me know if either one if you is interested.

Cool, old Rage cards are fairly cheap nowadays, I can use that as a temp until I can afford a better one if I buy this, I'll let LimeLite go for it before I do though, you did offer it to him first after all but if he doesn't, then I'm game.

How much would you be willing to sell it for?

I'd like to sell the whole system if possible. I assume you need a display as well. Lemme chew on the thoughts on the price.

Here are the specs of the system if I sell it, and to whomever, Lime, vniow, etc.:
450 MHz Cube
DVD drive
896 Megs of RAM (all 3 slots full)
QPS Que!Fire 8X4X32 External burner
Logitech MX700 Cordless Optical Mouse (I'd hate to part with this, but I am moving overseas soon, and it doesn't have a switchable supply)
Apple Pro Mouse & Keyboard
15" Apple LCD
Flaky 32 MEG Radeon video card! (I replaced the fan myself a year ago but it is finally about to croak)

I have some other items that may be included if interested. 4 Port D-Link router, and an Epson 777i printer.

Geesh, the shipping might get a little hairy on this system. Are Lime or vniow possibly anywhere near Illinois?

Ha, seems like LimeLite and I live in almost the same area, Bay Area, CA, honestly all I'm intrested in the Cube itself, I already have a keyboard/mouse combo and a display, but more doesn't hurt I guess.

It all depends on the price I suppose...

Yeah, I don't have much use for the burner, and I don't *need* the display but I'm slightly interested. I just found out that I do have the funds, but I need to know how much you want to sell it for. I also have a printer, and in some bizarre coincidence, I'm actually selling some 4-port d-link ethernet cards on ebay right now. :) Anyway, let me know how much you're asking, with and without the display.

I just gave LimeLite the price. If he turns it down vniow will get the same offer.

Sorry mods, that I turned this thread into a 'For Sale/Trade' message! :)

Sold!

Wow, LimeLite got a great deal for a wonderful system. I miss my Cube already. Although, my new 17" iMac is helping to ease the pain!

Sorry vniow, thanks for your patience.
