G4 iBook will not start up (clicking HDD)

sat here with a G4 ibook and I can't get her to start up, the HDD is clicking quietly but won't get going.
it's not a loud clicking and I don't think the drive has crashed

have tried hooking it up to my mac and setting it as a target disk, the firewire logo comes up, but nothing is mounted and the the drive is still quiet...any ideas?

Will it startup from your Mac OS X DVD? If it doesn't do that then there is a real problem. I don't know what a laptop HD dying sounds like, but I guess it is a possibility the drive has died. How old of a G4 is it?

I figure boot up on your OS X DVD, and do a disk utility check on it.

EDIT: I saw how old the G4 is in your Sig. , yeah the disk should definitely not be dead.
