G4 iMac DVD Drive

I want to upgrade my dvd burner in my G4 1.25 17 inch imac, will any internal pata drive work in there or does it have to be a special drive?

Any IDE drive should work. Best to look online for compatable drives such as MacUpgrades

Pioneer drives are what were standard in the iMac G4 and pretty much any of them should be compatible. It's been a few years since I upgraded the DVD drive in my iMac G4, but it was recognizes and supported right from the get go as I recall.
