I'm preparing a 20" iMac G4 for sale. It's in great condition, completely refurbished this month with 2GB RAM and SSD installed. Dual partitioned with Leopard OSX 10.5 and especially Z970's excellent Sorbet Leopard 10.5.9 has truly made this a wonderfully reactive machine for web browsing and also playback of HD videos with Core Player.

Being something of a perfectionist my one slight concern is superficial scratches on the plastic screen surround as shown below:

Depending on how the light catches it, these scratches are generaly difficult to see. View below:

I'm certain that these blemishes can be removed using a light abrasive acrylic/plexiglass polish, but I've never attempted anything similar.
Can anyone please advise if they have performed such an operation on a similar iMac surround. Is the material acrylic, plexiglass, polycarbonate.....? and what product is specifically recommended for either?
Unless I can guarantee that some improvement can be made I prefer to leave well alone. All suggestions welcome, especially from anyone who has performed this task successfully.

Instead of removing the scratches, try filling them in with a paste wax. This will reduce the appearance of the scuffs without damaging the acrylic.

Wax on; wax off.

Thanks for your reply. Have you actually tried this method on the model iMac in question? Just guessing this may possibly work on deep scratches, but where scratches are superficial wouldn't paste wax just dull the plastic finish which is the last thing I wish to do.

I have and it works reasonably well. Deeper scratches may require a second coat of wax.

Here is a great visual on what the wax can accomplish:

But my screen surround has light scratches which I'd like to remove, certainly not an opaque look as in that video. Plus you didn't indicate any brand named 'wax' polish (assuming such a polish removes scratches).
