Hi

Just installed an original Airport card into my G4 MDD 1.25

Recognises the card but it won't connect to the wireless connection (which is next door)....

My PC laptop says the wireless security is WPA2 personal and the G4 wants to connect on WPA personal so I guess this is the issue...

Is the G4 able to recognise or be upgraded to WPA2 personal or is there another way around it... am looking in the network settings now but I can't seem to work this out.

Thanks in advance.

B

If you have the non-FireWire 800 MDD, then it has the older Airport B card. That card cannot connect to a WPA2 network. It will see them, but not connect. You can either get a USB or PCI WiFi card and connect that way or change the router settings to allow WPA and WPA2 connections.

Hi yes its not the FW800

logged into my hub settings and this is what is selected

WPA-PSK[TKIP] + WPA2-PSK[AES]

Surely it should let WPA connections already? Or am I missing the point ?

Sorry for these silly questions - just so wanted to get the G4 online for the first time

That should allow it to connect. Try setting it to be only WPA. Also, if your router has N support, try turning it off so that it is only B/G.

Tried looking for the b&g option but its not there... router is an ancient netgear thing with virgin media cable on it...

not my router either son dont want to mess about with it too much.

Guess i'll have to grab another wireless card off ebay which will work.

Any recommendations ?

That card should work fine. Just make sure you remove the Apple Airport card before using a PCI or USB card.
