G4 quits after 45mins, back to login screen

My new (to me) G4 runs fine (OS 10.5.5) except that after about 45 minutes, it just quits and returns to the login screen.

I first noticed this as I was attempting to update software. Download proceeded, and after about 45 . . . back to login.

Sitting, running unattended, with all power save options set to "never" it does the same thing.

Any ideas.

Where'd you get it? Have you done a fresh install of OS X since?

Interesting... what kind of G4 is it? Laptop/desktop? I wonder if it's totally losing power momentarily and then gets it back? Or if it's a software thing... did you try reinstalling the OS? Or perhaps you could start by booting up an external OS using firewire transfer?
