I believe it could be a hardware issues, but I am unsure. When the G4 is booting up it will just power off before it gets to the login screen. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

No, but boot up from cd (hold "c" after pressing reset) and try the Disk Utility (First Aid: Repair disk)

Also, if its new enough, it should have a hardware diagnostics CD. I'd boot from that and see if it detects any hardware issues.

this is what i would do, it will let you know exactly where you are having the problem

good luck and let us know the results

do you get a start up chime? its sounds hardware related. how about an overview of the system. Also unplug everything that is not needed for startup
