When I use my PowerBook 17", I sometimes put the laptop on top of my MacBook.
In a minute or so, the PB will randomly go into sleep mode,(the display will go dark and the sleep light on the latch will pulse). Whatever I am doing will be saved, but the odd thing is I have to press the power button 2 or 3 times to wake it.

I know that your first response will be "don't put a computer on top of another one when they are both running", but I am more curious why this would happen.

The 1.67 GHz PowerBooks had an issue with a thermal sensor (it is in the top case on mine [15 inch]) that would cause them to randomly go to sleep and be hard to wake back up.

Check the temps on the trackpad sensor, mine and a number of others went bananas, +/- 200º sending the powerbook into sleep mode as it was trying to save itself from overheating :)

I removed one of the pins from the temp sensor, but i do believe apple have a new top panel which also includes an updated sensor.
