G4 Tower Replacement HD

Hi

I have an old G4 Tower that I'd like to give to my mum but the HD is bust.

I have tried to use some device to retrieve the data from it but I dont think its the write one as it doesnt even seem to come on once it's plugged in.

Can any body recommend something to retrieve the data?

Also if I cant just reformat the HD are there any other replacement HD's that I could use in place of the Seagate Barracuda one I have now?

That Seagete drive compatible. Some PowerMac G4 computers could not accept drives larger than 128GB, check Everymac in unsure.. but however, that Seagate should not be a problem.

- IDE cable good?
- Have you connected the molex connector also? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molex_connector)

An other option many of us also use is a SATA card, to accept newer Serial ATA drives (that actually can be quicker, hold more storage). These drives are easier to come by, can be a lot cheaper, and offer more storage space. In the end, it does cost money to get a controller too.
