G5 and 5.1 sound

Has anyone gone beyond Apple's offerrings on 5.1 sound? I'd like to use a Bose Acoustimass system for the sound, but I think that I'll need to couple the speakers to an amp to make that happen. It also appears that a S/PDIF link is required. We'd like to do our extensive iTunes collectiong through the system, plus couple it to the Cinema display for DVD movies. Any thoughts or suggestions as to the right way to do this would be appreciated.

The G5 has a S/PDIF (optical) out port, as well as an in port. However 99.99% of music is in 2 channel stereo sound, so 5.1 will do you little or no good. DVDs will play in 5.1 over the optical out, though.
