Hi can anyone tell me if g5 power pc cases are all the same or do they vary at all from model to model ?

Late 2005 models vary as they have dual Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Externally from the front they are identical, IIRC. Some models may have been modded by users though....some have their CD/DVD drives removed or upgraded, etc. The internal components can vary greatly, so the rear ports can be quite different between the different models. The below pics are from a post by Weckart in another thread, but they illustrate the differences perfectly.

Thank you i have been promised two one early one late the late on has been dropped and one of the handles has been flattened so the plan is to swap out the two internals the grid with the connections are ok so it is just the basic external wrap round chassis that i will swop .
