Hi all,

I’ve read quite a few stories about G5 2.3MHZ dual core computers dying.

I finally got one and I really love it. Is there anything that can be done to prevent any issues?

I’ve heard of people having issues with caps and issues with the ram slots.

On another note, does this look normal?

Most G5's that died were ones with liquid coolers that leaked. Those were the 2.5DP, 2.7DP and 2.5QC.

I may be wrong about this, but IIRC capacitor and memory problems were with the iMac G5 primarily and not the Power Mac G5. All I'd do is open it up and have a good look to see if anything seems abnormal (eg: bulging caps, any unusual hissing/whine noises while powered up). I would remove and replace the original 3.6V PRAM battery since they are good at leaking.

The case is bent but it doesn't seem to affect cooling. I ran Apple diagnostics on it a few times and it always checked out.

I'm keeping an eye open for another one to keep as a backup. I really like this computer. I am writing this from it now.

Currently, I am using it for a project in Adobe InDesign. I don't need Adobe for work or anything, just the occasional project. CS 4 is just fine for me.
