Ok my brother just bought a Logitech G51 speakers

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/3549&cl=us,en

He did not do much research beforehand and I had to explain to him that it might be a challenge to get surround sound to them.

He bought

This adapter but it is only a mini to toslink.

So basically now he has everything and wants my help setting it up.

The problem is that the toslink

from the computer cannot plug into anywhere in the sub.

The speakers only inputs are 6-channel direct or stereo RCA.

We could always use the RCA if we needed to but it kind of defeats the purpose of surround sound.

Is there a cable we can get or something to get from direct 6 channel to toslink or mini.

I will do some more internet research but thought I would run it through here too.

It looks like the speakers you have won't support an optical input.

The FireWave might be the only option here.

I just came across this thread about a guy with the same speaker and same question and they only said he needed some adapter but I don't think they told him the right information for these speakers.

Thanks for the help.

I will look at that firewave.

Toslink to Optical is just an adapter that lets you squeeze an optical output into a laptop by sharing the headphone jack.

Once you get to optical you're going to need hardware that supports it. I know Logitech does make one set of digital speakers that will accept optical input.

Yeah I would have researched it and found out what cables and stuff I needed if I was buying the speakers.

By my brother is a little careless and just bought the ones on amazon that looked the coolest.

Well I am guessing he will probably will have to live with the RCA cables.

But he will only use it for iChat and iTunes so I guess it does not really matter.
