G5 iMac RAM

Does anyone think its a good idea, to buy an iMac and install cheaper ram by myself? Would it make a difference? What kind would I get?

Yes, buy it yourself, and fit it yourself. Use the Crucial memory selector to make sure you get the right stuff at a good price.
