I have a G5 1.8 single (4 ram slots) and the power supply is/might be going out and I found a good deal on a 600w power supply (Apple Service Part Num: 661-2904, OEM AcBel API-2PC54) the one in the G5 currently is the 450w AcBel can I do this without issues? Thank you, Jeff

As far as I know, the original spec for your machine had a 450w, but I don't think there should be any issues if you put in a 600w as long as it fits.

The 600 Watt is a drop-in replacement.

G5 P/S

450 Watt

2003 SP 1.6, SP 1.8

Early 2005 DP 2.0

600 Watt

all other G5 thru early 2005

680 Watt ( late 2005 only )

Late 2005 DC 2.0, DC 2.3

1000 Watt ( Late 2005 only )

Late 2005 QC 2.5

Thank you!

Still waiting for a little more response, but thanks! Jeff

When I had my G5 I remember reading that the single processor machines used a 450W PSU while the dual processor ones required the bigger 600W PSU.

I have read that my Mac Pro uses a 1KW PSU
