I know the G5 will not be put into Powerbooks until July (most likely), so that's not my question. My question is, when they do put the G5s in, will they integrate it into all Powerbooks. Or will the 12" editions still be the G4, and they only put the G5s into 15" and 17" editions. Also, if they do integrate them all into all Powerbooks, would it stand to reason that the iBooks would then get the specs of the previous Powerbooks? Because the ATI 9200 is pretty weak, but with the ATI 9700 would make the iBooks very, very appealing at their good price.

I'd guess they would do the entire line at the same time... Apple has a thing about product unity.

The iBook are already pretty close in most aspects to the Powerbook. Expect the Powerbook to be updated and the iBook to stay where it is for a little longer.

I don't see the iBook getting the 9200 anytime soon .. not until the PBs have a mobility Xx00 in them ..

Dude, nobody knows that except Steve.

The 9700 will probably never make it into a small laptop, because its heat output is probably not going to be reduced. Apple might choose some sort of X300 though.

Also, don't assume that all PBooks will go G5 at once. Apple might not have enough engineers to redesign the whole lineup at once.

That's a question that has been discussed several times. If we'll see 12" (or 13" widescreen) depends on if technically feasible. At this point, I'd say it's probably not but we don't even know if they could design a 17" G5 PB wich isn't 2" thick and a battery that last longer than 30 minutes. When they are ready to release a 17" and 15" PB G5 but can't offer a smaller version, they will just drop (at least temporarily) the 12". Continuing the 12" as PB G4 wouldn't make any sense since the iBooks are so close to the 12" specs wise. They only have to add DVI out, faster CPU and bus, and BT and allow monitor spanning by default and you have an iBook that has the same features as the current 12" PB.

Seeing as how there are a lot of P4/A64 laptops on the market which are smaller than that, one would hope G5's were up to the task. Heh, how fondly I recall a couple arguements I had on these forums about G5 vs A64 power usage. ;)

I hope not. I love my PB 12". And unless they make the iB 12" closer to the PB in terms of capabilities, they have lost out IMO.

Now what would be a cool way of differing the two would be to make the PB 12"more like the Sony TR series. Go with a G4 and 10" screen, 64mb VRAM, 1gb RAM built in (with an upgrade to 2gb max), SDD, and the current ports - I would be wanting one ASAP.
