Is it possible to replace the superdrive with a hard drive to add more internal storage?

It will be loose in the case unless you can find some sort of an adapter though.

One could always secure it with two of the screws from the optical drive and the little levers that hold the optical drive in and two rubber feet. I've secured a few hard drives in G5's that way.

Good idea. I wonder if there is an adapter ever made though!

It use to be easy to find rails that were designed to adapt a 3.5" hard drive to a 5.25" bay. I've run across bunches of them, as at one time many 3.5" IDE HDDs came with a set in the box. I don't know if any of them would have the correct screw points on the bottom to attach the G5 optical drive feet, but this might be something to look into.

Any 3.5" to 5" drive adapter that has screw holes on the bottom for the 5" drive will work. The optical drives used in G5s have a standard screw pattern.

I've done something like that before.
