Considering replacing my most-likely-dead optical drive in my G5 tower with a cheap 32-64GB Ultra ATA/100 SSD. I understand that it'll be limited to 100MB/sec, theoretically, at best.

Any issues here?

Should work o.k.....

For some days I even booted my G5 from an IDE-drive connected there as Master with the CD still in there as slave....

Speedwise you might be better of buying an IDE-Sata-adaptor and putting the SSD into a HD-bay.
