my g5 was on all day. i was working on it this evening and it made a loud pop and shut down. now it won't turn on at all. i tried resetting the smu. no luck. any suggestions?

I guess me saying 'Yeah, buy a new one' wouldn't be all that helpful? ;)

I think you've probably got to the point where you need to have somebody take a look at it. It might well be your power supply (along with a couple of other things) but it's probably going to need to be fixed by somebody. Try to pop (no pun intented) it into the apple store.

Duff-Man says....definitely sounds like the power supply took a dive. Call Apple about it or take it in - there were some issues with faulty power supplies and even if out of warranty they were fixing them free of charge if yours happened to fall within the lot that were identified as having issues...oh yeah!

Thanks for both responses. I've got an appointment at the genius bar. Let's hope I can at least save the contents on the HD. Thanks again.
