A mate accidentally force quit software update halfway through the 10.4.10 update and now his G5 won't boot up, it just hangs on the OS X screen. Is there anything that can be done to sort it other than an archive and install?
If I do an archive and install can I simply use Migration Asistant to copy apps and prefs back from the archived system or do I have to use a separate volume. The G5 has a load of copy protected music software on it (Native instruments, PT HD, etc. I have often found it is best to re-install all this from scratch, any opinions?
An Archive & Install should preserve all that data. It'll merely replace your system files whilst leaving your user files intact. Obviously keep everything backed up just in case though.
