Apple has been on the G5 designate for possibly the longest of any G ever.

What & when will be the next generation G6 or something completly new become a reality.
Predictions ?

What?

Apple abandoned the IBM PowerPC that the G series was based on.

They have move to Intel, G is dead. There aren't any G series computers on Apple.com.

Intel-based Macs are, what, a year and a half old now?

The Power Mac G6 is rumored to be unveiled at WWDC this year. Wait until then and see what happens. I'm calling the rumor bogus, though... want to bet money on it? :)

this is crazy... we all know that this won't happen, the G6 chip isn't even the same is the Powermac G5, as we have already been over in the forum, and for all we know there is no problem with the Apple-Intel relationship and there has been no new breakthroughs in the Apple-IBM relationship.

G series is gone .... it was an apple thing.

Apple renamed IBM/Motorola chips under a single Gx name to pull the hood over the consumers eyes and make buying machines much easier. And it worked.

However, IBM may release the next series after the PPC970 (Power4-lite) based on the Power6. Skipping the generation of Power5-lite chips that they would have needed to save their Apple relationship.

Freescale is still revising their chips -- but the G4 series isn't advancing as fast as some of their other chip lines.

Someone should make a nerdy "I'd rather be driving an intel." bumper sticker for those.

How times have changed....

G3 toasting Pentiums. :p

But, in real honesty... as Mac OS X and most of the apps are Universal... you never, ever know. Especially with Steve. Intel desktops and laptops... Power(X) Servers, etc.

I was joking... Obviously I know what's going on in the world of Apple. Come on now! :p

Thanks, it's really worth bumping such topics with memes.
Our lives have been enriched.

Yup, the G in G3/G4/G5 was talking about generations of PowerPC chips...Apple doesn't use PowerPC chips anymore, the term G(whatever) goes away

you know what, this pisses me off. How long can it take to put out the G6??

Seriously.

And I bet it'll cost an arm and a leg. You know I had to pay $2500 for this giant cheesegrater that barely fits on my kitchen counter, and then those fools at apple filled it all up with stuff. There's hardly any space for the cheese. And those little cheese trays that slide out? Those suck too. Not only does the cheese barely get there, it usually ends up melting.

I swear to god, from now on i'm buying all my kitchen appliances from the best buy. I hear they have that Geek Squad.
