For those looking at paper specs only, take the above in consideration.
Surely it may improve by final launch, but I've come to learn the hard way that rumors from The Inquirer are generally correct. Its pretty easy to figure out by looking at the history of the product(ie. Intel's graphics), and the rumors about the new products that surface(Prescott runs hot, performs slow, G965 having fatal performance problems), what the final product is.
Core 2 Duo was positive from the beginning, from rumors of one months earlier launch for Merom, Intel forwarding Conroe launch, basically everyone saying performance is good, and it is indeed good as the rumors suggested.
We are hearing that the chipset is actually slower than its predecessor, Lakeport/i945G. Much slower. Things get brighter in heavily shader intensive situations, but there is a problem there as well. We are told that if you go above 800*600, well, things approximate a slideshow, but with the added shader firepower, it is a very attractive slideshow.
