Gah! This is driving me crazy! What it this thing called?

Okay, so my girlfriend and I were talking over AIM (we do that when we're at our respective father's houses for the weekend) and she mentioned that she smelled me. I told her that I sometimes have the same thing where I smell her and she's not there. I read something about it before, but I don't remember what it was called, and it's driving me crazy!

I tried Google, and Ask, with no luck! :(
 
I'm not sure what its called...but I know that sometime I think I hear my phone vibrate, and I go to look and theirs nothing there.

Weird mind tricks!
 
Olfactory synesthesia could be one term (or even hallucination). ;)

The sense of smell is the one tied into the deepest, darkest places of the brain, and have more control over us than most folks are aware of. Scents trigger memories constantly, and memories or focused thoughts can also trigger an olfactory "memory" that coincides on the recalled moment. In his defense.. young love.. via AIM.. at Weekend Dad's.. it's understandable that he might not have caught onto that one.

I think we should be far more alarmed if he had answered "Yes", then does his GF have a goatee too?
