Hi there,
I got my old macPro life after years of sitting in a box .. my macbook died so I needed a emergency solution, and i must say on certain aspects it does´t run all that bad! ;)
I always was struggling with the old Mac Pro; It always started freezing within minutes after reboot, I tried numerous to revive it by installing new os but never got it to work.. until now. I removed the second and third ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256mb cards which I had in there, and I guess that was the ´bottleneck´all along.. anyway i don´t know too much about hardware, so probably just a stupid thing most of you guys would have figured out in a minute ;))

Anyway, now it´s working, and thinking how I can beef it up, will buy some more RAM, replace HD with SSD for OS and software, and now a friend has a Galaxy Geforce GTX 580 1536mb ´laying around´and I would like to know if it´s compatible with my system. I searched but some say yes, some say no, i´d like to get a definite answer (one thing I found it will need extra power supply?)

Hope someone can assist me with this question, and apologies for my ignorance ,)

So specs are
MacPro early 2008
2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
4GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 mb
OSX El Capitan 10.11.6

Thanks in advance
Mike
