Game Center revealing real names?

I'm running iOS 5, and when I first launched Game Center it asked me to confirm that it was okay to use my real name so friends could find me more easily.

The problem is, I can now see the real names of friends who I know haven't downloaded iOS 5 and therefore haven't agreed to these terms. Anyone have any idea what's going on there?

Maybe it's matching their emails with your contact list.

Logic, logistics to make that leap is pretty minor.

It's not matching names with my contact list, since the name for this person is different in both places.
