Game controller on M1 mini

I bought a Mini with an M1 to check out the buzz. I was going to swap out my Windows desktop.

Gaming isn't the only thing for this computer, but I did want to play some games.

I tried but a PS5 controller and and Xbox controller both through bluetooth. Neither works.

There was an issue with installing Rosetta. It wasn't intuitive for me, but I figured it out.

Is there a driver or something I need?

The Xbox One wireless controller with Bluetooth does work, model number 1708. However I've also got the newer blue/white controller for the One X and that doesn't work (yet, given the post above by @matrix07 ).

Played a few games with the 1708 controller without issue, and it's pretty good. I've not tried my Series 2 Elite, as that's linked to the Xbox and I can't be hacked trying it right now, but I'm assuming that'll work as well.

Are you trying apps from the app store? Or something like Ge Force Now / Stadia?

I think I have the white One X that doesn't work.
I watched this video to start -
, he just connected the PS5 controller and it worked. He said it shows as a PS4 in the bluetooth devices. Mine got nothing.
I was going to return the stuff that didn't work. I don't see the model number (1708) on either bestbuy or amazon. Is that old?
I just wanted to get a decent controller and try some stuff. What should I get?
 
There are so many variants of the Xbox and PS controllers that the engineers at Apple would have a hard time keeping up with supporting all of them. My Xbox Series S controller works fine, but my Elite Series 2 isn’t supported yet.

Read the links I posted above. The PS5 controller is not supported YET.

Per Apple's Website they have 2 controllers they sell that are compatible with M1 Macs:
SteelSeries Nimbus
and
PS4 DualShock
 
I've been using the DualShock 4 from my PS4 with the M1 Macbook Air for Arcade games and it's been working great. We have a SteelSeries Nimbus too that also works great. Don't have any first hand experience with the Xbox controllers and iOS/macOS.

Oddly enough, I don't even have my PS4 anymore. I just kept one of the controllers when I sold it so that I could use them for iOS/macOS gaming.
 
But there are games that still don't work even if the gamepad is supported like the 1708BT Xbox-Controller.
