Gamepad camera spin

I've been playing some games with Playstation 2 and 3 gamepads on WinXP on my Macbook. One annoying thing is that the camera in third-person games such as Tomb Raider: Legend will spin without my touching the right analog stick. I've tried calibrating it in the Control Panel, but the stick never seems to settle in the direct middle. I don't have this trouble with the stick on the consoles, so I assume the PC is very touchy. Any fix or advice?
