If you open something in iTunes and rotate it counter-clockwise 90 degrees, the speaker is under your right palm. You can flip the entire iPhone 180 degrees so that the video flips and the speaker is on the upper left side.

But games seem to be locked in to a 90 degree counter-clockwise rotation.

I find this irritating!

Not only does my right hand cover the speaker but if I use a earphones the plug gets in the way of my left hand.

I saw an ad for the Touch and the ear phones are in a better position (see attached).

Is there a fix?

no just dont whine about it.
 
I don't think so - just the placement of the earphone input on the iPod Touch is different to the iPhone.

I understand where you're coming from though - maybe they'll sort something out in a later firmware release.
