Hello all,

I have one of the original light blue iMac G3 models from the late 90s. I've upgraded the RAM with an extra 256mb stick and while it is still a bit slow, it works well otherwise (internet and all).

I've been thinking of setting it up for my kids (ages 3 and 5) to play on. I currently have an laptop running Linux and they like playing games like Tux Paint and the like. I've been looking for similar games for them to play on it but haven't been able to find any. I've been having a hard time finding any software for it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

iSpy Haunted Mansion and Little People Discovery Airport.

Kids Pix Deluxe 3 and Zoombinis Logical Journey were two very popular games during my elementary school days. Our school had many iMac G3s on which we'd play them. I would definitely recommend these! (although maybe that 90s thing of making your own wacky art in Kids Pix has worn off by now? xD... Well, I guess it has come back, ever since the iDevices came along)

On a G3, I believe that Chopper would work. eyoungren actually gave me a list of games that he knows works on a PPC system. Unfortunately, I do not have the list anymore. There is also some games here on a site called "PowerPC Liberation".

if you're running os 9 you can pick up connectix virtual game station real cheap and run playstation 1 games.

Thanks all for the replies. A lot of these seem to be exactly what I am looking for.

Sorry - forgot to mention the OS. It's OS 8.6. I did find that website while searching for some of the games mentioned here and it seems to be a great resource for some of this old software.

Mars Explorer is a Unity 2 game and works on old PowerPC Macs pretty well. It's kinda abandoned but people still do play it. You need Mac OS X for this though. I suggest you upgrade to OS X. Upgrade to 10.3 at least.

Didn't it require Dashboard? If so, then you need at least 10.4.

No, there's a webplayer and standalone version too. It works in Panther (i've tried it) but I don't know about Jaguar... probably not.

The latest version (2.22) requires the internet for the worlds (the worlds are stored on remote servers like Dropbox). Older versions, like 1.9 and 1.9.8 have only four worlds and they are stored locally so it can be played offline. But the only way to play the older versions is through the links on the Play page under "Time Machine"; these are webplayers though. I do have 1.9.5 and 1.9.8 standalone app stored around.
It's possible to play 2.22 offline, you just load a world saved locally.

I had only ever seen the widget for Dashboard. I am going to look into this as it was a great game when I played it.
