Gamevice today announced the launch of a new gaming controller that's designed for the iPad, with the controller joining the already available iOS version. The Gamevice controller fits around the iPad, turning it into a handheld gaming console.

Gamevice says that the new iPad version of the controller is compatible with the 5th to 9th-generation iPad, the iPad Air 2 and iPad Air 3, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. It is ideal for cloud gaming experiences through Xbox Game Pass, GeForce NOW, Apple Arcade, Stadia, and more. It also works with a newly updated version of the Gamevice Live app, which is meant to help players find controller-friendly games to play.

Alongside the iPad controller, Gamevice today introduced a new version of the iOS controller that is compatible with all current-generation iPhones and Android smartphones, including the entire iPhone 13 lineup.

The Gamevice for iPad is available from the Gamevice website for $100, and the new Gamevice for iOS is available for $80.

I have a switch, I would rather have something like this.

The switch is good only for first-party Nintendo games. It's far too low power for anything else.
Apple should buy part of Nintendo and have all their games on the iPad. Nintendo games are not graphics and CPU hungry and could be run on the iPad with no problem. I know this is a stretch but a man can dream.

This article is bizarre. Is this a mistake? The web site links to the same old, discontinued products that have been out of stock for years. The article mentions no details to differentiate the supposedly "new" product from the old discontinued ones. It makes little sense that these products wouldn't work with the latest Apple devices.

I'm thinking someone at "GameVice" (if they even still exist?) may have hit a button somewhere and sent out a years-old press release by accident, and MacRumors reported on it as if it were new.

Nintendo switch is 270€ in europe and you dont have any games, which are 50€ each in most cases.
You get what you pay for, in general the games for the Switch are far better than the best iOS games. More content, better AI, longer play through, no micro transactions, etc.

There are a plenty of good ports brought over to the Switch. They may not be the most current release of whatever property, but they are still far better than anything iOS has to offer.

I have both a PS5 and a Switch and enjoy them both whenever I get a little downtime. And with two kids and 5-6 hockey teams to worry about, it isn't much. 😄

It would have to be a hostile takeover I think. I doubt the Board would support a sale to an American company.

I'm not trying to defend iOS gaming, it's not good either. But access to streaming games is a plus.

Switch ports are fine, good enough for the most part.

I'm psyched for the Steam Deck. Everything else is noise to me now.

Wouldn't surprise me, can't get why a new accessory would be announced for products that either aren't available new any more, or are sold as entry-level or educational devices. Who is running a 10.5" iPad Pro from five years ago and is in the market for a gaming controller for it? has to be a slim market.

I used to ignore all these gadgets as when they aren't 1st party they aren't properly supported or useful.

But considering how streaming services work these days, pretty well, it makes a lot of sense.

far more useful and powerful than a switch for sure. but of course lacks the IP that nintendo has.

if only one could install a separate app store and emulate....

Another with it being odd to mostly support older iPads. It's as though they think their target market for a $100 accessory are people who don't have recent higher end iPads. Which seems to me. The people who go out buy the latest higher end models. Are more likely to have the discretionary income for a $100 accessory.

I'd think with the size of the accessory. They could've used a countersunk USB C port. Then include adapters for USB C and Lightning. Covering all the more recent models.
