I've only seen one so far and it's the review from Macworld.

Anyway, seeing the figures, I'm actually quite surprised the 17" is equal in gaming framerates compared to the 15" with standard res. My understanding is that the higher the screen's resolution is, the higher the GPU will draw on the screen thus slightly lesser frame rates. So doing the math, the 15" 1440x900 is supposed to be better at gaming (no matter how slight) than the 17" 1980x1200. Or am I missing something? Has anybody seen other gaming benchmarks comparing the 2?

So does this mean if one wants to get the best gaming performance MBP, one should just get the 17" rather than a standard res 15"?

I don't believe the 17" is running at 1920x1200 but they've been equalized to 1024x768 and also some standardizing at 1280x800.

But that will also look better (or worse?) using the 17" screen, right?

Starcraft 2

With my 2.3GHz i7 17" I'm getting 35-45 FPS in Starcraft 2 at 1920x1200 and everything set to extreme. If you're the type who craves 60+ FPS you should have no problem achieving it by lowering the settings just a tick but you still get the full 1920x1200 screen. It's very capable.

indeed.

I prefer 50-60fps in SCII, so most of my settings are on "High". I find setting things to "Extreme" @ 1920x1200 results in times where the game falls below 30fps. Not necessary for the small visual gains (to my eyes).

The only game so far I haven't run at 1920x1200 with 40fps or better was the Crysis 2 Beta. I had to ramp that all the way down to 720p. Dunno why, as I can run Crysis Warhead @ 1920x1200 at all Medium/High @ 50-60fps.
