Gaming from external hard drive

Hi I was just about to set up bootcamp for the first time on my macbook. I don't really want too big a windows partition, since I'll only be using it for games, would it be advisable to just install the games on an external hard drive (USB 2.0) in that case with a pretty small windows partition?

I've also heard that it's possible to boot xp from an external hard drive (after a bit of tinkering). Would that be an option too? I'm just thinking about gaming here. I really want to give company of heroes a good lash!

Some games will work, but you may get lag and stuff.

I'm running Battlefield 2142 and BioShock from an external USB HD and there is no noticeable slowdown.

Yeah, a faster hard drive will only be useful for loading stages, cutscenes etc, a slow one won't slow down actual gameplay.

Would this scenario hinder online play at all?
